My friend Susan combined her baking, creativity and her activism as she, along with myself and many others, participated in a demonstration and press conference in front of Sen. Bob Casey’s office in downtown Philadelphia, last Monday.
Our intent was to urge our senator to vote NO on a bill to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline. Susan was inspired to bake a round loaf of bread, on which she added the various continents of the world. After baking she placed flags on the bread with notations about the affects of climate changes on differing parts of our planet – our Mother Earth. Concerning North America she noted the affects of increasing heat waves on croplands; the increasing desertification and resulting famine in Africa; the rising sea level affecting many island nations; and for good measure included a chunk of cheese. The cheese flag said: “Climate change is not GOUDA for us!” Oh yes, she is also quite funny!
