Annie Leonard challenges us to create the big, societal changes that are needed to bring forth our vision; in The Story of Change – a short YouTube that is based on what she has learned from studying major change movements of the past century. (www.StoryOfChange.org)
There are three important elements that bring forth effective change, she claims;
1 - People share a big idea, a big vision, about how things could be better. This needs to go deep into the heart of the problem.
2 – We need to work together to solve the problems. Although our individual actions are important, it is only by working together that we can create the tipping point to win the big battles. The obstacles may seem insurmountable, but we do have the power of the Internet to help us connect with each other.
3 – We must take action! Making real change takes us all of us. 85% of Americans believe that corporations should have less influence on government. Imagine working together to bring about that change to reclaim our democracy!
We need all our unique skills and interests, combined with the efforts of thousands of others to bring forth the changes that are needed.
The path might not be clear. But, as Martin Luther King said, “Faith is taking the first step, even if you don’t see the whole staircase.”
Get inspired, get educated and get into action – and by working together we can make the changes that are needed.
